The first thing we look at in Parramatta is where the afternoon sun lands. An unshaded, west-facing deck can get too hot for bare feet by mid-afternoon, whatever it’s made of — so most of the outdoor rooms we build here pair the deck with a pergola or awning overhead. Insulated roofing, louvres or a timber pergola all change how often you’ll use the space.
Board choice matters too. Composite is low-maintenance and splinter-free, but darker colours hold more heat in full sun, so on exposed decks we’ll steer you towards lighter tones. Councils, clay soils and flood-prone land
Depending on which side of the boundary you’re on, your project sits with City of Parramatta, Cumberland City Council or The Hills Shire. Two things shape the build out here. Much of Western Sydney sits on reactive clay that swells when wet and shrinks when dry, so we size and set footings to suit the soil rather than using one depth for every job. And some properties near the Parramatta River, Toongabbie Creek and their tributaries are mapped as flood-prone, which can affect deck height, approvals and materials. Prices are indicative Sydney installed rates for 2026 and include the subframe, piers, fixings, boards, under-deck oiling, deliveries, waste removal and a final clean — not just the boards. That’s why they sit above the $350–$500 per square metre quoted elsewhere, which is usually materials only, or supply-and-lay by an unlicensed installer. Sloping blocks, difficult access, elevated decks, stairs, balustrades and pergolas add to the rate, and a quote that’s $200/m² cheaper usually means those things come back later as variations. How do I keep a deck cool in a Parramatta summer?
Shade does most of the work — a pergola or awning over the deck, or orienting it away from the western sun. Lighter board colours stay cooler than dark ones, and good airflow under the deck helps too. We’ll show you samples in the sun before you choose.

Does a raised deck need a balustrade?
Yes, once a deck is more than 1m off the ground the building code requires a balustrade at least 1m high. That covers most upper-level decks and alfresco extensions on sloping Parramatta blocks, and we design it in from the start — glass, aluminium or timber.

Do you remove the old deck?
Yes. If there’s an existing deck, we pull it out and take it away as part of the job — demolition, removal and disposal are all covered, so you don’t need a skip or a separate contractor.
What warranty do you give on a new deck?
Every deck we build comes with our 10-year workmanship warranty, on top of the manufacturer’s warranty on the boards themselves. Composite brands like Trex, Millboard and TimberTech carry their own long-term product warranties, and we’ll give you the exact terms for the range you choose.

A recently completed courtyard deck and privacy screen in the Parramatta area
A broken timber deck and an overgrown courtyard, rebuilt as a clean, private outdoor room straight off the living area. With no side access, every board, bearer and bag of concrete went through the house — so we protected all the floors and doorways before a single piece came in.
The new deck sits on an H4 treated-pine substructure over concrete piers, with G-Tape on every joist so water can’t sit on the timber. It’s decked in Trex Tropicals in Havana Gold, fixed with hidden fasteners for a clean surface, and the steps are finished with colour-matched plugs so no screw heads show. Down both sides, a Castellation cladding privacy screen in Ipe closes out the neighbours and ties the whole space together.
