The existing deck had seen better days and the owners wanted to start using the area again as it overlooked the pool and back yard and could have been a really great entertaining area. There was a bit of a disconnect between different parts of the yard and entertaining area and so the owners decided to remove the existing porch tiles and extend the deck to the porch as well as adding a ramp to the front yard and another one to the side of the pool to make the area more accessible. Spotted gum for the deck was a good choice as it has a very tight grain that made it perfect for the ramps and around the pool. They also liked the look of wood and spotted gum is warm and really attractive when it is oiled. All the substructure was gtaped to prevent water penetration and the deck boards were treated with wood preservative to the bottoms and cut ends. The deck not only looks beautiful, it will last a lifetime.
